Since 1885, Aley has been considered one of Lebanon’s most attractive summer villages. At that time, the railroad built in 1887 and which linked Beirut with Damascus, made it easy for residents of Beirut and tourists to vacation in Aley. The town has regained its past glory as the number of tourists continues to increase each year. Aley has made a concentrated effort to rebuild and improve most of its infrastructure, which was heavily damaged during the war.

A variety of modern restaurants, shops and cafes have since sprung up along its main street. Aley offers its visitors a moderate climate and a spectacular view of Beirut and the coast.
The International Symposium of Sculpture and Painting is held in Aley every summer, since 2000. Artists from all over the world participate to create great works of art that are then displayed in various parts of Aley.
